Sound waves are produced any time an object moves or shakes. These are waves that travel through the air and reach their ears. If you think about a guitar string when someone plays it, it vibrates really fast back and forth and that creates music! Or when you speak, your voice box vibrates and produces sound waves.

And scientists measure loudness using a special scale. It is called decibels, or dB for short. A long time ago, a clever man called Alexander Graham Bell for example came up with this method of measuring sound. Bell is best known for inventing the telephone, but we use his concept to describe loudness.

    How dB Measurement Works

Imagine if you had something that could tell you exactly how loud a sound is. That's what a dB meter does! The meter converts sound waves into a number when sound waves strike it. The larger the number, the greater the noise. It’s like a guide who helps us with the information that goes too loud.

It is crucial to know how loud things are, especially to protect our ears. Our ears are very special, and they may get hurt if sounds are too loud. Just like we put on sunscreen to protect our skin, we need to protect our ears from super loud sounds.
